Safety starts with the commitment of our owners and continues throughout the entire organization. We employ a full time safety manager, whose duties include regulatory compliance, incident investigation, training, inspections, etc.
Labor and management personnel actively participate in the safety process. The joint union-management safety committee meets monthly to discuss safety topics, problems, and probable solutions.
Much emphasis is placed on prevention. The safety manager and supervision spend a significant amount of time in the field to promote, encourage, and support safe operations. Safe job procedures have been developed for many jobs and are reviewed in pre-job safety briefings.
Training is an integral part of our safety process. All of our field employees hold 10-hour OSHA cards and attend weekly safety training sessions. These weekly sessions cover a wide variety of safety topics which, include the following:
- Regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT)
- Customer Requirements (USX, ISG, NIPSCO, NICTD, CSXT)
- Industry specific requirements (FRA)
- Tranco requirements
